Photographic Picture Blog

Welcome to our Photographic Picture Blog.

We started taking photographs when we had gone for our usual walk in the same old place. Consumed with boredom for both the kids and ourselves, my husband had an ingenious idea. He pulled out the digital camera and set us all the challenge of who could take the best picture, we all flew around snapping pictures of what ever we could find in the hope of out doing each other

We haven’t looked back since.

What started out as a take the best photo game has become a hobby for us all, it’s brought us closer together as a family having a common interest (photography) and is something for us all too look forward to at the end of the week.

When we first started taking photographs we had a simple cheap digital camera (cost about £80) but after a couple of months it couldn’t keep up with us we just wasn’t getting the quality images we wanted and the capture speed was too slow (missed a lot of good action photographs).

So we upgraded to a Fuji FinePix S9500 Digital Camera (brilliant digital camera, highly recommended). This digital camera is almost professional (professional meaning used by professional photographers) in quality image taking, with a true professional digital camera you can use different exchangeable lens (something about Digital SLR :-)) and you pay a premium for this option! But having kids using the camera out in the real world having exchangeable lens means a big risk of dust (or kids greasy fingerprints more like!) on the sensor which would ruin a professional digital camera!!

The Fuji FinePix S9500 Digital Camera is by no means a cheap camera, (just checked on Amazon and they sell it for £200 now, much less than we paid!) the quality and capture speed is ideal for what we use it for (photographic hobby) and if one of the kids ever decide to take up photography professionally it’s good enough to start with.

The images on the site are not directly from the camera, we upload them to a PC and create 2 new images using Jasc Paintshop Pro, one with 800 px width the other 300 px width (thumbnail) with 15% compression when saved (take up under 150KB each). The original images direct from the camera are 3488px x 2616 px in dimensions and tend to take up 2MB of space each (to big for website use). So we obviously loose some quality in this process.

Now where ever we go we take our digital cameras (we still take the cheap camera as well) in the hope of snapping that perfect shot to out do one another and win the family photographic competition and be crown best photographer of the week

That’s how this picture blog began, we decided to create an photographic image blog and put up our best photos so we could easily look at and enjoy our pictures.
